Before building the lessons

• Define the course, grade or level, and length.
• Identify the standards or learning expectations.
• Write the main skills and understandings students should leave with.
• Organize those goals into units.
• Choose assessments that actually measure the goals.
• Add activities, readings, examples, and supports after the structure is clear.
• Check accessibility, cultural relevance, source quality, and student workload.
• Mark unfinished or untested materials BETA until they have been used and reviewed.
